In February 2005, a Workshop on ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE IN ASIAN AQUACULTURE ENVIRONMENTS had been organised by the project participants on the Asiaresist findings. It has brought together the groups working on the project, other researchers in the field, representatives of relevant national and international organisations and representatives of the aquaculture industry. The main purpose have been to introduce the Asiaresist findings in the public domain, to share experiences and to identify the most effective ways of making use of antibiotic research results at farm, national and regional levels in order to control antibiotic resistance in aquaculture. The Workshop took place over two days in Chiang Mai, Thailand and included plenary presentations on the Asiaresist project and its findings, and presentations from invited participants representing relevant interests in Asia and Europe. In addition there had been discussion sessions, and a poster session on the general topic of antibiotic resistance and use of antibiotics in aquaculture.
